Avondios Bica

Avondios (born Ioan Dimitrie Bica ; born December 5, 1977 in Teregova , Romania ) is Archbishop of Brixen in the orthodox autocephalous metropolis of Aquileia and Western Europe . He was the first Romanian clergyman to admit his homosexuality.

Life

Since 1993 Dimitrie Bica attended the Art School in Timișoara . He then studied at the Spiritual Seminary of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Caransebeş . In 2000 he was ordained a priest. In 2002 he gave up the activity as a priest again. In 2004 he became a monk in the St. Peter and Paul Monastery in Caransebeş.

In 2006 Dimitrie Bica emigrated to Italy and publicly acknowledged his homosexuality. In 2007 he joined the Orthodox metropolis of Aquileia and Western Europe and was ordained a monk. He became Archimandrite and in 2008 Bishop of Lecco and Como. In 2011, with Metropolitan Evloghios of Milan , he declared the willingness of the metropolis to join the Russian Orthodox Church . That year he caused a stir with his report on an icon of St. Nicholas who wept tears. At the end of the year he left the metropolis for a short time.

He has been Archbishop of Bressanone since 2016.
