Awa Diop

Awa Diop (born May 1, 1948 in Rufisque , Rufisque Department , Dakar Region ) is a former Senegalese politician .

Life

Awa Diop worked as a secretary in the mayor's office of Rufisque and then in the hospital “ Aristide Le Dantec ” in Dakar . On February 2, 1975 she joined after a performance by Abdoulaye Wade in Rufisque as a member of the Democratic Party PDS ( Parti Démocratique Sénégalais ) founded in 1974 . She was soon distinguished by her activism and willingness to fight and was arrested twice by the police in 1988 and 1993, particularly for “unauthorized demonstrations”. She was a member of the board of the PDS and general secretary of the Liberal Women (Femmes libérales) in Rufisque. She also acted first as Vice Secretary General and later as General Secretary of the Femmes Liberales in the Dakar region and National President of the Femmes Liberales .

In the elections on May 9, 1993, Awa Diop was elected for the first time as a member of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale du Sénégal) for the PDS and re-elected in the subsequent elections on May 24, 1998 and April 29, 2001. In the eighth legislative period she acted as secretary of the Presidium of the National Assembly between May 1993 and May 1998 and in the tenth legislative period between April 2001 and October 2006 as second quaestor (deuxieme questeur) . On October 16, 2006, she took over the post of Minister Associate with the Prime Minister (Ministre déléguée auprès du Premier ministre) in the Prime Minister's Cabinet and held this post after the elections from February 25, 2007 to June 19, 2007. During the remaining eleventh She was then second quaestor again between July 2007 and July 2012.

In the elections on July 1, 2012 , Awa Diop was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly on the PDS National List. She was a member of the group of Liberals and Democrats (Libéraux et démocrates) . In the elections on July 30, 2017 , she was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly, where she represents the interests of Bambey .
