The Awtomagistrala "Rila" or more rarely Awtomagistrala A7 ( Bulgarian Автомагистрала А7 "Рила" / Awtomagistrala "Rila" / Ger. Rila motorway) was a planned motorway in southwest Bulgaria . It is named after the Rila Mountains it traversed .
It should connect the Avtomagistrala “Struma” (A3), the Avtomagistrala “Trakija” (A1) and the Avtomagistrala “Hemus” (A2) with each other.
The idea of a seventh Bulgarian motorway was published in 2008 and planning began, but was discarded in 2011. Instead, a four-lane expressway is to be built, but construction is unlikely to begin in the medium term.
In 2014 the number 7 was awarded for the Kalotina motorway, which is to connect Sofia with the Serbian border near Kalotina in the future .
