The Kyustendil Province ( Bulgarian Област Кюстендил ) has an area of 3085 square kilometers (2.7% of the Bulgarian territory) and a population of 173,889. The city ​​of the same name is the administrative , economic and cultural center . The northern and western part of the region has a highly rugged relief, which is also in Bulgaria little known Milewska Mountains (Милевска планина) Tschudinska Mountains (Чудинска планина) Semenska Mountains (Земенска планина) and in the east the Konjawska Mountains ( Конявска планина).

In the south, the region extends to the Lisez Mountains (планина Лисец) and the valley of the Bistritsa River (Бистрица) as well as to the Osogowo Mountains (Осоговска планина), Wlachina Mountains ( плананина) (the north-western part of the Rila Mountains ) and the Rila Mountains Рила).

The water drains into the Struma River via the tributaries Trekljanska (Треклянска), Dragovishitsa (Драговищица), Bistritsa (Бистрица), Slokoshtitsa (Слокощица) (), Novmoselska (from the Rivers of the same name (Новасел), Novмoselska (Новалана) Mountains .

Near the village of Kamenitschka Skakawitza (с. Каменичка Скакавица) the river Golemi (р. Големи) forms the 70 m high waterfall Skakawitza (Скакавица).

The Djakowo (Дяково), Bersin (Берсин), Drenowdol (Дреновдол) and Bagreniz (Багренци) reservoirs are mainly used for irrigation purposes.

The region is heavily covered with mixed forests, in which conifers predominate. Next to Osogowo is the 89 hectare nature reserve Gaba.

Administratively the region Kyustendil is divided into nine municipalities: Kyustendil (Кюстендил), Dupnitsa (Дупница) Bobow Dol (Бобов дол), Sapareva Banya (Сапарева баня) Rila (Рила) kocherinovo (Кочериново) Nevestino (Невестино) Boboschewo (Бобошево) and Trekljano (Трекляно) with a total of 182 villages.
