The Vidin Oblast ( Bulgarian Област Видин ) is an administrative unit in the far north-west of Bulgaria . It borders on Romania in the course of the Danube and on Serbia . The largest city in the region is the Widin of the same name .

101,018 inhabitants (2011 census) live in the Oblast (district) Vidin on an area of 3,033 km². In 2017, the population was still 86,927, according to an estimate. The region is rapidly losing population.
In the north of the region there are many Romanians who are called " Wallachians ".
