The Awuna River is an approximately 320 km long left tributary of the Colville River in northern Alaska .
Its source is in a swamp in the western North Slope . It flows strongly meandering in an easterly direction and flows around 45 km southwest of the Ikpikpuk River into the Colville River, which flows to the Arctic Ocean .
The native Alaskan name for the river at the time, "Uwanmun", was recorded by RK Lynt and documented in 1924 by PS Smith of the United States Geological Survey . The name means something like "westward". The name used by the natives today is "Sakvailak".
