The Axalphorn (also Axalphoren ) is a mountain in the Bernese Pre-Alps .
The Axalphorn is 2320 m above sea level. M. high and is located southeast of the Axalp . The municipal boundary between Brienz and Brienzwiler runs over the summit .
Since 1959, a Swiss Air Force cable car has been running from the valley (Aarboden) to the ridge west of the summit. The Axalp aircraft demonstration takes place on the southern slope . On April 18, 1968, a Hawker Hunter touched a crest of the West Summit here while taking photos for a book project . In the seventh fatal accident on this aviator firing range, the pilot Captain Paul Birrer, commander of Fliegerstaffel 11 and formerly the Patrouille Suisse , as well as the aviation photographer Ernst Saxer , who was on the ground, were killed.
