Axel Kuhn (logistician)
Axel Kuhn (born May 27, 1944 in Köthen (Anhalt) ) is a German logistics scientist. He was professor for factory organization at the Technical University of Dortmund and one of the directors of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics .
Life
From 1965 to 1973 Kuhn studied mechanical engineering, first at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, manufacturing technology, and then design engineering at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After completing his studies, he worked from 1973 to 1980 as a research assistant at the chair for conveying and storage at the University of Dortmund with Professor Jünemann. Kuhn received his doctorate in 1979 on the subject of a contribution to the analysis of process computer-controlled general cargo conveyor systems: programming system and planning aids for the disposition, monitoring, control and simulation of internal conveyor systems .
In 1981, Kuhn moved to the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics as a manager. In 1986, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dortmund appointed him professor for the field of "IT use in production". In 1991 Kuhn took over the professorship for logistics, in particular information and simulation technology. From 1992 to 2012 he was a member of the institute management of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics and head of the corporate logistics department; from 2000 to 2004 he was the managing director of the institute. From 1993 to 2012 he was Professor of Factory Organization in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund. He is also a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) .
On November 22, 2002, Kuhn received an honorary professorship from the Beijing University of Science and Technology (BUST).
On September 11, 2012, Prof. Axel Kuhn retired.
