Axel Nawrath

Axel Nawrath (born February 26, 1954 in Hanover ) is a lawyer and member of the SPD . From July 1, 2014 to December 31, 2019, he was Chairman of the Management Board of L-Bank , the state development institute of the State of Baden-Württemberg . From April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2014, he was a member of the board of the state development bank KfW and from March 1, 2006 to March 31, 2009 State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF).

Life

After completing his legal doctorate in 1981 and the second state examination in 1982, Nawrath initially worked as a lawyer . From 1983 to 1998 worked in various areas of the federal finance administration and at the Federal Audit Office. In 1994 he was appointed a member of the Federal Audit Office.

In 1998, under Minister Oskar Lafontaine , Nawrath moved to the BMF as head of the management team and, in 1999, took over the management of the National and International Financial Markets and Currency Policy Department. With the creation of BaFin, a central financial market service supervisory authority was introduced under his responsibility .

On March 1, 2003, he moved to Deutsche Börse AG . Until the end of February 2006 he was Managing Director and Managing Director of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

When CEO Werner Seifert left the company in autumn 2005 and was replaced by Reto Francioni, Nawrath also looked for a new field of activity and returned to the BMF as State Tax Secretary under Minister Peer Steinbrück . Nawrath was considered one of the most influential government officials. As State Secretary, he chaired the steering committee of the SoFFin special banking fund , which decides on the award of state aid to ailing financial institutions.

With effect from April 1, 2009, Nawrath was appointed to the board of the state development bank KfW. There he was responsible in particular for domestic promotion and sales. His term of office ended on March 31, 2014.

From July 1, 2014 to December 31, 2019, Nawrath was Chairman of the Board of Management of L-Bank.
