Axel von Hillebrandt

Axel von Hillebrandt (born April 12, 1933 in Tilsit ) is a German palaeontologist and university professor at the TU Berlin .

Hillebrandt was an assistant at the University of Munich from 1959 to 1962 , where he received his doctorate from Richard Dehm in 1960 (The Paleocene and its foraminifera fauna in the Reichenhall and Salzburg basins), from 1962 assistant at the TU Berlin, where he qualified as a professor in 1965 (Foraminifera -Stratigraphy in the Old Tertiary of Zumaya (Guipuzcoa Province, NW Spain) and a comparison with other Tethys areas) and was a professor until his retirement in 1998.

He deals with ammonites specifically from the Lower Jurassic and the Jurassic of South America, their taxonomy, evolution, biochronology and paleogeography. He also dealt with micropalaeontology .

In 2014 he became an honorary member of the Paleontological Society , of which he was president from 1995 to 1997.

He is a member of the International Sub-Commission for Jura Stratigraphy and the German Jura Sub-Commission with voting rights.
