The mountain station is the most important station in the Norwegian city of Bergen . The terminal station is located near the city center and is the terminus of the Bergen Line from Oslo .

history

The first train station in Bergen was opened with the Vossebane on July 22, 1883. The CAP-lane tracks were on the southern bank of Lille Lungegårdsvannet, parallel to Nygårdsgaten and ended in front of Christiesgate. The two-storey reception building in solid construction stood parallel to the tracks at the end of the route.

After the Norwegian Parliament decided to run the Bergen Railway in standard gauge , the Vossebane was converted to standard gauge from 1904. The existing systems were soon no longer able to cope with the increasing traffic - especially after the Bergen Railway started operating continuously in 1909.

Since it was not possible to expand the existing track system, it was decided to build a new train station on the north bank of Store Lungegårdsvannet.

The current station was opened in 1913, four years after the Bergensbane opened . The design comes from Jens Zetlitz Kielland Monrad , who had previously won an architectural competition. A station restaurant has been located here since 1937. Bergen Train Station is 471.25 km from Oslo Sentralstasjon Train Station.

The station building has been a listed building since 2003.

Individual evidence

  1. In Norwegian , the ending "-en" for nouns is a definite article . Therefore, the correct designation in German texts is either “Vossebanen” or “die Vossebane”.
