Richard Dehm
Richard Dehm (born July 6, 1907 in Nuremberg ; † March 20, 1996 there ) was a German paleontologist .
Dehm studied geology and palaeontology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (among others with Ferdinand Broili and Stromer von Reichenbach ), where he received his doctorate in 1930 (with a topic on the geology of the Ries area, geological studies, the area of the Monheim leaf ) and passed his teacher exams. Instead of the teaching career he became an assistant at the Institute for Paleontology and Historical Geology in 1932. In 1935 he completed his habilitation and in 1936 first became a research assistant and in 1937 a conservator and lecturer at the Bavarian State Collection for Historical Geology and Paleontology . From 1948 to 1950 he was a curator at the Geological-Paleontological Collection in Tübingen. From 1950 he was professor of historical geology and palaeontology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and director of the Bavarian State Collection, which he rebuilt after war losses.
Among other things, he dealt with tertiary mammals from the karst crevices in the Alb (but also from the Siwalik layers of Pakistan ) and with the meteorite crater in the Nördlinger Ries .
In 1984 he became an honorary member of the Paleontological Society and in 1991 of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology . In 1962 he became a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
His doctoral students include Wighart von Koenigswald (professor in Bonn), Gerhard Schairer and Volker Fahlbusch (one of his successors in Munich).
