Aydin Isik

Aydin Isik (born August 1, 1978 in Hattingen ) is a Turkish-born cabaret artist , actor , director and author .

Life

At the age of six, the family returned to Turkey, where they lived in Karabük from 1984 to 1986 and in Istanbul from 1986 to 1995 . In 1995 Isik at Abant Izzet Baysal University , a degree in business studies . After experiencing theater at school, he applied to the university's theater group and was accepted. Isik also made his first radio moderation during this time and moderated evening programs on the radio station Bolu FM in 1996/97. Isik also moderated a children's program on the private television broadcaster Köroglu TV .

In August 1997, Isik moved back to Germany to continue his business studies. There he founded the Turkish theater group Yari Maske in 1998 . In 1999 he wrote his first piece 1/2 Stand-Up . In 2001 his second play Asure came on stage. In 2003 Isik interrupted his studies and took part in the seventh Theater Total project in Bochum .

Artistic career

In September 2003 he started his first professional engagement at the Arkadas Theater in Cologne, where he played Aladin in the production Aladin and the Magic Lamp . Since then he has worked as an actor in more than 20 theater productions at various theaters. He has also appeared in various TV productions as an actor. Isik played Dimitri in the series Add a Friend .

In 2006 Isik staged Shakespeare's Complete Works at the Arkadas Theater in Cologne . He also staged his own stage version of Russian classics such as Guilt and Atonement and War and Peace . Isik also made two short films with his own script. In 2012 he shot Medeniyet Baska Birsey-Das Nenne Ich Zivilisation , which won the “Best Short Film” and “Audience Award 2017” awards at the 2012 Koblenz Short Film Festival. The short film Father? received the "Best Cast Award" at the Alternative Film Festival in Toronto in December 2017.

Since 2011 he has also been on tour as a political cabaret artist on German-speaking stages. His first stage program was called To Guest with Friends , with which he won the Lower Saxony Cabaret Prize Lauben-Pieper in 2013. Isik has been with its religion-critical program Before the Messiah Comes! on road. He has also been a duo on German cabaret stages with Mike McAlpine since February 2014. With their first joint program North-South Divide , the cabaret duo Mike & Aydin won several awards.

In 2008, Isik hosted the Turkish-language radio program “Cafe Alaturka” at Funkhausuropa WDR. Since 2009 he has been writing and speaking for the Turkish radio show "Köln Radyosu" for the same radio station, which is now called Cosmo, the radio ketch series "Bizim Kahve".

In 2009 Isik wrote his first German-language play Aladin and the stolen magic lamp and staged it in Cologne. Since then, Isik has written seven plays, six of which he directed. In 2010 his radio play The Funeral was produced and broadcast by WDR5.
