Aymo from Grandson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aymo von Grandson († October 21, 1262 ) was Bishop of Geneva from 1215 to 1260 . Aymo comes from the wealthy noble family of the Lords of Grandson in north-western Vaud . His father was Ebald IV, Lord of Grandson.

Aymo was canon in Lausanne in 1209 , subdeacon in 1210 and cantor of the Lausanne cathedral chapter from 1210 to 1215 . Aymo is documented as Bishop of Geneva from 1215. He secured the power of his diocese by building the castles of l'Ile (Geneva), Jussy , Malval , Peney and Thiez against the Lords of Faucigny and by expanding the county of Savoy . In the Treaty of Designy (1219) he allied himself with the Count of Geneva .

In 1227, the Pope initiated an investigation into Aymo, who was accused of neglecting his religious duties and a secular lifestyle. He resigned from office in 1260 and died two years later.
