Azam Khan

Azam Khan (born April 20, 1926 in Pakistan , † March 28, 2020 in London ) was a Pakistani squash player .

Career

Azam Khan was the dominant player of the 1950s and early 1960s alongside his older brother Hashim , cousin Roshan and nephew Mo. In 1954, 1955 and 1958 he was in the final of the British Open against Hashim, to which he was defeated in all three games. In the following years from 1959 to 1962 he won the tournament four times in a row. Three times he defeated Mo, once Roshan. At the US Open he was in the finals five times. Only in 1962 did he win the title. After a torn Achilles tendon and the death of his then 14-year-old son in the same year, he ended his career.

After his playing career, he moved to England , where he ran a squash facility in London. His granddaughter Carla Khan was also active as a squash player.

He died on March 28, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK at London's Ealing Hospital of complications from COVID-19 .
