Hashim Khan

Hashim Khan (* 1915 in Nawakille in Peshawar ; † 18th August 2014 in Aurora , Colorado , United States ) was a Pakistani squash players .

Career

Hashim Khan became the first Pakistani to win the British Open in 1951 when he defeated four-time defending champions Mahmoud Karim at the age of 37 with 9: 5, 9: 0 and 9: 0. By 1958 he had won six more titles, the last at the age of 44. Only in 1957 he lost to his cousin Roshan Khan in the final . At the Tournament of Champions and the United States Open Championship , now the US Open , he won three titles each. In 1993 he was inducted into the World Squash Hall of Fame .

In the 1960s he moved to Detroit , where he started working as a trainer. Another move to Denver followed , where he was also a trainer.

In addition to his cousin Roshan, his brother Azam , his nephew Mo and Roshan's son Jahangir were well-known squash players. Hashim Khan had 16 children, four of whom did not survive the first few years of life. Six sons went squash in the United States, including Sharif and Aziz .
