Bärwinkel is an inhabited part of the municipality Neuhardenberg in the district of Märkisch-Oderland , located in the state of Brandenburg.

history

Whey house in Bärwinkel

Originally, the place was built as a Vorwerk by Quilitz (that is the name of Neuhardenberg at the time) between 1802 and 1803. The young architect Wilhelm Bode (1777–1806) began working for the family in 1798 with the first plans for the construction of a works in Bärwinkel. Later the young Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781–1841) was entrusted with the project.

In the Bärwinkel Vorwerk, Joachim Bernhard von Prittwitz (1726–1793) planned to run a dairy farm, in which the new type of stable at that time should be tested. This was new and not very common at the time. In 1802 the entire complex comprised a two-storey whey house, a barn, a stable, an English landscaped garden and a marl distillery .

The whey house

The two-storey whey house, built in the form of a neo-Romanesque basilica , had been a listed building since 1980, but fell into disrepair. Since 1990 it has been restored by the association for use as a museum. The use of lawn iron stone as a local building material is a specialty of the region.

The Molkenhaus on Bärwinkel is Schinkel's reconstruction of the Temple of Solomon.

The building ensemble, consisting of the whey house and two outbuildings in the form of an ornamented farm, is considered to be the first major work of the young architect Schinkel and is unique in the region. The overall impression is today impaired by decay and various renovations. A permanent exhibition "The young Schinkel 1800 to 1803" can be visited in the building.
