Wulkow (also Wulkow near Trebnitz ) has been part of the Neuhardenberg community in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg since May 1, 1998 . Neuhardenberg to which the districts Altfriedland and Quappendorf also belong is administered by the Neuhardenberg office.
history
The oldest known documentary mention of Wulkows is dated to 1361. The basic word from which the Slavic place name is derived means wolf . The von Schapelow family ruled from 1361 to 1646. From 1608 a manor can be found in the place . Through his marriage to Margarete Tugendreich von Schapelow, Georg von Derfflinger became the owner of Wulkow in 1646. Since the last son of Georg von Derfflinger died childless, Wulkow and Hermersdorf came into the possession of Rittmeister Georg Friedrich von Ziethen.
In 1792 Albrecht Wilhelm von Pannewitz, district administrator of the Nieder-Barnim district and canon of Halberstadt , bought the three manors Wulkow, Hermersdorf and Trebnitz for 109,000 thalers . In 1825 von Pannewitz died childless.
When Wilhelmine von Pannewitz married Field Marshal Wilhelm Magnus von Brünneck , the manors Wulkow, Trebnitz and Hermersdorf came into the possession of the von Brünneck family after their death. In 1945, Dr. Wilhelm von Brünneck was the last owner of Gut Wulkow.
From March 2, 1944 to February 3, 1945, there was a satellite camp of the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Wulkow .
Wulkow Castle
In the GDR era, Wulkow Castle was used as a hospital, as a refugee home and as a training center. The Heselhaus family from the Westphalian Münsterland acquired the castle from the Treuhandanstalt in August 1992 and extensively renovated it. In 1994 the Parkhotel Schloss Wulkow was opened.
