Tyrin Turner

Tyrin Turner (born July 13, 1971 ) is an American actor . He was best known for playing Caine "Kaydee" Lawson , who starred in the 1993 film Menace II Society .

life and career

Tyrin Turner, who is of African American descent, began his career in 1989 at the age of 18 with an appearance in the music video for Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation and a small supporting role in the film Judgment , which already takes up the topic of the youth gang, which remained decisive for Turner's other roles. In 1992 he played a drug dealer in Deep Cover , before his big break in 1993 in Menace II Society in the role of Caine. The portrayal of the youth from the Watts ghetto in Los Angeles, where he becomes a dealer, steals cars and is involved in several murders, was considered shockingly realistic by critics and earned Turner a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards for best actor.

Turner appeared on a number of television series in the 1990s, including Real Awesome, Mr. Cooper , CBS Schoolbreak Special , Fallen Angels , Chicago Hope, and New York Undercover . As a film actor , a number of smaller roles followed: In Panther , a film by Mario Van Peebles about the history of the Black Panthers , he played Cy, a young member of the Black Panthers, who introduces Judge, a black Vietnam veteran and main character of the film, to the movement that is becoming more and more radical. In the action film Soldier Boyz , he played one of 6 prisoners who are sent to Vietnam on a military mission. In Belly he again portrays a drug dealer, Rico. The latest film in which he appeared, A Day in the Life , is again about the story of a black ghetto gang.

He also played the role of "Walt" in the sports documentary Michael Jordan's Playground .

As a hip-hop musician , Turner made guest appearances with Cypress Hill , the Geto Boys and Scarface from 1995 .

Tyrin Turner is married to Amina Garner and has two children, Shamya and Raheem.
