François Béroalde de Verville

François Béroalde de Verville (born April 27, 1556 in Paris , † between October 19 and October 26, 1626 in Tours ) was a French Renaissance writer, poet and intellectual.

Live and act

His father was the writer and theologian Mathieu Béroalde († 1576). His mother was née Marie Bletz, a niece of the humanist and scholar François Vatable . At the time of the events around Bartholomew's Night on August 23-24, 1572, his family fled to Geneva in 1573 . But Béroalde de Verville returned to Paris in 1581. During the Huguenot Wars , Béroalde de Verville swore from Calvinism and joined the factions around Henry III. from France. In 1589 he moved to Tours where he became canon, chanoine of the cathedral chapter of Saint Gatien . An office he held until his death.
