The Bohemian ponds , often mistakenly Bohemian ponds are two lakes on the western edge of the city of Munich in Germany, which is divided into the great and small Bohemian pond. The lakes are located in the far west of the Munich borough of Aubing-Lochhausen-Langwied , south of Gröbenzell and south-east of Puchheim . They lie in the Munich gravel plain and were created by gravel extraction. They are part of the Aubinger Lohe landscape protection area .

description

Böhmerweiher, overview

The Great Bohemian Pond is about 4.75 hectares and is mainly used for fishing, but also for swimming; the water quality was not always perfect in the past. Its island (almost 130 square meters) and its many bays are atypical for a quarry pond.

The Small Bohemian Pond is around 1.5 hectares and is difficult to access. Partly because of a belt of reeds on the shore, but not least because of the many ants that almost flood the ground in its vicinity and do not invite you to step into the lake surroundings. Because of the low human impact, the lake was able to develop into an interesting biotope .

history

The name of the lakes goes back to the last name of the owner of the property. This created a quarry pond from the 1960s through dredging, but this was ultimately divided into today's two lakes by backfilling. The site was then used by a concrete mixing company. After that, over time, the lakes were used by those seeking relaxation, especially those from nearby communities. Although the city of Munich issued a development plan in 2006 to create the legal requirements for proper development of the area, there is still no regulated use of the area. A provisional regulation by the bodies concerned, so that at least a proper maintenance and cleaning of the area is ensured, did not come about in 2008. The development plan provides for an update of the previous uses over an area of 26 hectares, the creation of a recreational area compatible with the landscape at the Great Bohemian Pond and the safeguarding and development of the existing biotope at the Small Bohemian Pond. In addition, it creates the future conditions for a water rescue station, sanitary facilities and a kiosk. Preliminary investigations into the expansion were initiated in 2008, the expansion into a recreational area should take place in 2011, but has not yet been implemented. Since the beginning of 2013 it has been certain that the municipalities of Munich, Gröbenzell and Puchheim, together with the recreational area association, will buy the lake area from the current owner, Johann Böhmer. The lakes are currently leased by the Starnberg District Fishing Association.
