Life

The son of the general practitioner Bartholomäus Krüger (born April 30, 1579 in Danniko near Magdeburg; † May 23, 1613 in Wittenberg) and his wife Margaretha (1584-1612), the daughter of Wittenberg councilor Magnus Person, came after the untimely death of his Parents in the care of his guardian Balthasar Meisner . This encouraged him to study, so that he was accepted into the group of students at the University of Wittenberg at a young age in 1620 . In particular, he dealt with the Greek and Hebrew languages and, at the age of seventeen, could have completed the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy.

Since he was much more attracted to the medical sciences, he completed medical studies with Daniel Sennert . In 1629 he advised him to move to the University of Jena , where he studied botany and anatomy with Werner Rolfinck (1599–1673) for three years . After a short stay at the University of Leipzig , he wanted to go on an educational trip to Italy, but the Thirty Years War prevented him. On October 26, 1632, he came to the University of Königsberg in Prussia, where he took part in disputations at the university there.

In 1633 he had found a position as private tutor in the country and practiced as a country doctor in medical practice. Returned to Königsberg, he obtained a licentiate in medicine on December 20, 1634 , became an adjunct of the medical faculty in 1635 and on June 13, 1636 as a full professor of medicine and physics. Krüger, who was particularly committed to the education of his students, became a victim of his profession. He had contracted consumption and died from it. His body was buried on November 5th in the cathedral of Königsberg, where an epitaph was also dedicated to him.

His marriage to Catharina, the daughter of the physician Georg Loth (1579-1635), on January 13, 1637 resulted in a daughter.
