Büchig is part of the Blankenloch district of the large district town of Stutensee .

The place was first mentioned in 1373 as "Buchech". It was "under the staff" of Blankenloch until 1786 and then became an independent municipality. On April 1, 1936, the incorporation into Blankenloch took place through an administrative measure.

The population development was rather slow, the first census from 1709 by the administration of the margraviate of Baden-Durlach showed a population of 50 people. In 1933 there were 290. Due to the influx of displaced persons after the Second World War and the economic miracle , the number of inhabitants rose suddenly from 1945 to approx. 3670 people. Since then the number of inhabitants has not increased significantly.

Some typical surnames that have been around for centuries and still have family members in Büchig or Blankenloch today are: Abel, Amolsch, Becker, Dörflinger, Frick (h), Gamer, Gierich, Grimm, Haisch, He (e) ger , Heidenreich, Hemperle, Hermann, Hofheintz, Kiefer, Lehmann , Mohrhardt, Nagel , Pfattheicher, Raupp, Schorb, Se (e) ger, Seitz, Ullrich.

Influenced by the Baden-Durlach family, Büchig was Protestant until the end of the Second World War. However, this changed due to the large number of expellees, and Büchig got a Catholic parish that initially held its services together with the Blankenloch St. Josef parish in Blankenloch, then held masses in the Büchig funeral hall, until 1994 the foundation stone for a Catholic-Protestant Community center "Holy Spirit" was placed.

Büchig has a long history. Partly it was due to its small extent the happiness of many a war to be spared. So the enemy troops passed it in the Thirty Years War because it could not be made out behind the forest. However, the First and, above all, the Second World War left their traces, which can still be proven today through the war memorials in honor of the fallen soldiers. There were also many emigrations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, especially to North America.

On January 1, 1975, Büchig and Blankenloch came to the new community of Stutensee.

Old Town Hall

In Büchig there is an old town hall, a primary school and two kindergartens, a few shops, several craft companies, a sports club, an old and a new cemetery with a funeral hall.

The proximity to Karlsruhe and the connection of Büchig to the Karlsruhe light rail network make it particularly attractive for people commuting to Karlsruhe to live in Büchig.
