Citizens for Görlitz (voters' association)

Bürger für Görlitz eV is a voter association that was founded in 1999 in the East Saxon city of Görlitz and has been a member of the city council since then. In the 2014 city council election, it won 8 seats with 20.0%, making it the second strongest force. After the formation of a parliamentary group with the city council members of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and the Pirate Party , the number of votes of the parliamentary group rose to 11. In the local elections in Saxony in 2019 , it won 7 seats with 17.5%.

history

The electoral association was founded on March 24, 1999 with 30 members under the motto "Coming together is the beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success." In the first city council election almost two months later on June 13, 1999, the electoral association won 18.4% and at that time was already the second force behind the CDU . Rolf Weidle, a local general practitioner, became chairman of the citizens' parliamentary group for Görlitz . In the next city council elections on June 13, 2004, it was even the strongest parliamentary group with 29.4%. Rolf Weidle was confirmed in the office of parliamentary group chairman in this electoral term. In summer 2008, Weidle withdrew from the parliamentary group chairmanship and handed over the office to Hans-Peter Prange.

Also in the district elections for the district of Görlitz , which was newly founded in 2008 , citizens stood for Görlitz in the two Görlitz electoral districts and entered the district assembly with Rolf Weidle and Klaus Arauner. They form a parliamentary group in the district council with free voters and the initiative children and youth in the district council .

In the 2009 city council elections, the electorate won 21.1%, making it the second largest force in the city council. Rolf Weidle was elected chairman of the parliamentary group. After the formation of a parliamentary group with the city council members of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen , the number of votes in the group rose to 11.

In 2012 the association had more than 100 members.

Local political goals

The electoral association names as its local political goals:

  • the development of business parks,
  • the lowering of property and trade tax,
  • building a new after-school care center in Rauschwalde ,
  • building a new after-school care center at the Melanchthon School,
  • the new construction of a double field hall in Königshufen ,
  • a shopping center in Biesnitz ,
  • the completion of the artificial turf on the Eiswiese sports field ,
  • the maintenance of the tram ,
  • the reopening of the town hall ,
  • the renovation of the Stadium of Friendship ,
  • the restoration of the Helenenbad as an outdoor pool,
  • the completion of the port and campsite at Berzdorfer See ,
  • the new construction of the fire station in Kunnerwitz (since 2016 the new domicile of the merged Görlitz local fire brigades from Klein Neundorf and Kunnerwitz),
  • the expansion of Berliner Straße,
  • the expansion of the urban cycle path network,
  • the south-west bypass of Görlitz,
  • the preservation of the theater and the Lausitz Philharmonic ,
  • the maintenance of the municipal hospital,
  • barrier-free access to public places and facilities and
  • the recognition of Görlitz as a world cultural heritage.
