Mayoral elections in Königs Wusterhausen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mayoral elections in Königs Wusterhausen take place every eight years.

Mayoral elections 2001

The full-time mayor of the city of Königs Wusterhausen was Jochen Wagner from the SPD until February 2002. He was elected full-time mayor in 1993 for eight years. Stefan Ludwig from the PDS at the time and Simone Krause from the Independent Women's List were nominated as opposing candidates. Since the parties CDU, FDP and the Greens had little chance of success, all three local associations supported the SPD candidate and did not nominate their own applicants.

Main election result

The main election took place on November 11, 2001 and resulted in the following:

Current number Name of applicant Name of nominee Share of votes in%
1 Wagner, Jochen SPD 42.36
2 Ludwig, Stefan PDS 48.63
3 Krause, Simone UFL 9.01

Runoff result

Since in the first ballot no candidate was able to win an absolute majority of the votes cast, a run-off election had to be held on December 2, 2001, in which the two candidates with the highest percentage of votes were still available.

Current number Name of applicant Name of nominee Share of votes in%
1 Wagner, Jochen SPD 47.16
2 Ludwig, Stefan PDS 52.84

The new full-time mayor of the city was Stefan Ludwig ( Die Linke ). He was elected in the runoff election with almost 53 percent of the vote.

The next election took place on September 27, 2009. The incumbent mayor was no longer available for this election.

Mayoral elections 2009

The full-time mayor of the city of Königs Wusterhausen was Stefan Ludwig from the Die Linke party until October 2009. He was elected full-time mayor in 2001 for eight years. Since the mayor, who had been in office until then, was no longer available for election, the election had to determine a new mayor. Michael Reimann from the Left, Lutz Franzke from the SPD, the former mayor of today's Zeesen district, Barbara Wolff from the Citizens' Alliance and Kersten Radzimanowski from the NPD, have been nominated as candidates. The parties CDU , FDP and the Greens did not put up their own candidates due to a lack of prospects of success and openly supported the SPD candidate because they saw him as the most promising candidate for the Left Party candidate.

Main election result

The main election took place on September 27, 2009. 28,669 eligible voters were called, which resulted in the following:

Current number Name of applicant Name of nominee Share of votes in%
1 Reimann, Michael The left 34.58
2 Franzke, Lutz SPD 39.80
3 Wolff, Barbara Citizens' Alliance 21.62
4th Radzimanowski, Kersten NPD 4.00

With 19,370 votes cast, the turnout was 67.56%. 18,987 votes were valid. The required number of votes for the election of mayor would have been 9,494. As the number of votes could not be combined by any candidate, a run-off election had to decide on the future mayor, as in the 2001 mayoral election.

Runoff result

Since in the first ballot no candidate was able to collect an absolute majority of the votes cast, a run-off election had to be held on October 11, 2009, in which the two candidates with the highest percentage of votes stood for election. This time, 28,697 eligible voters were called.

Current number Name of applicant Name of nominee Share of votes in%
1 Reimann, Michael The left 45.09
2 Franzke, Lutz SPD 54.91

With 10,296 votes cast, the turnout was only 35.88%. This difference is mainly explained by the fact that the main election took place at the same time as the 2009 Bundestag election , where traditionally more voters can be mobilized. For the election of the mayor, 5,115 votes had to be united on one candidate. The SPD applicant received 5,616 votes. The new full-time mayor of the city is Lutz Franzke (SPD). He was elected in the runoff election with almost 55 percent of the vote.

The next election will take place on September 24, 2017 at the same time as the general election.
