The Bürgerwaldtunnel is a road tunnel of the federal autobahn 98, which is being partially expanded, near the city of Tiengen in the district of Waldshut . The connection has been completed with a tunnel tube and serves as a city bypass.
Geographical location
The Bürgerwald tunnel pierces a shell limestone bank, a steep bank of the Wutach or the Ur-Rhine in the Klettgau valley near the city of Tiengen. The name is derived from the forest on the plateau, the Bürgerwald, a forest owned by the city with former rights of use for city citizens. The entrance / exit Tiengen-Ost is in the direction of Unterlauchringen and leads over the Wutach. The West entrance / exit also crosses the Wutach on the outskirts of Tiengen at the level of the Schluch confluence with the Wutach. The drive was carried out by blasting . In 1997 the tunnel was opened to traffic. Since October 2006, the sections between Laufenburg and Hauenstein and between Tiengen-West and Lauchringen have been exempted from the truck toll in order to relieve the communities on the B 34 . Furthermore, the sections mentioned are signposted as a motor road and not as a motorway, this should only happen after the complete expansion to four lanes.
Large-scale exercises
In the Bürgerwald tunnel, a large-scale exercise is carried out every four years by rescue workers, which is mandatory for tunnels over 400 m in length. For this purpose, the route is closed and accidents are simulated by the Red Cross and the fire brigade . The last exercises have been moved to the night hours to reduce the build-up of congestion during the day.
safety
The Bürgerwaldtunnel has two branching emergency exits, designed as escape tunnels , which corresponded to the standard during construction. Due to new safety regulations, the tunnel will be supplemented with a parallel continuous emergency exit. The construction is to take place in place of the originally planned second tube.
