The town hall of Bützow was built in 1849. It is located in the center of Bützow directly on the market square of the city center in the immediate vicinity of the Gothic collegiate church .

history

From around 1229 the city of Bützow was laid out as planned, which was granted city rights in 1236.

From 1847 to 1849 the new town hall was built in the neo-Gothic Tudor style according to the plans of the state master builder Susemihl . 21,526 thalers had to be raised for the new building. A somewhat pompous entrance part with a balcony and an outside staircase reminds of the time when Bützow was the residence of the Schwerin bishops . The decorative turrets at the corners and at the entrance portal were therefore crowned with bishop's hats . The originally flat roof was soon replaced by a slate-covered hip roof, which was covered at the edges by an attic .

The town hall was thoroughly renovated around 1995.

The goose fountain (1981) by Walther Preik in front of the town hall symbolizes an amusing novella written by Wilhelm Raabe . In 1794 mayor Dr. Hane, that the geese are no longer allowed to roam freely on the streets, because "the unregulated existence of the geese would give the people a dangerous Jacobin example". Raabe illustrated the novella Die Gänse von Bützow with comparisons to the French Revolution , in which the city advokat dem Danton , the schoolmaster Robespierre , the coffee party of the Jacobin Club , the honorary parlor in the inn of the Palais Royal and the liberation of the "arrested geese" up the storm the Bastille were equated.
