The BAE Tempest is a concept stealth aircraft , a successor to the Euro Fighter Typhoon of the Royal Air Force to develop. The aircraft is being developed by a consortium of BAE Systems and the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce Group , as Great Britain is not participating in the German-French-Spanish aircraft project Future Combat Air System , which is also planned as a successor to the Eurofighter.

history

In July 2018, a first 1: 1 model was shown at the Farnborough Air Show . The UK government plans to allocate over £ 2 billion to the project by 2025.

On July 7, 2019, it was announced that the Swedish Saab group would be involved in the development as a project partner in order to have a replacement for the Saab 39 available in the long term . The Tempest is scheduled to go into service around the year 2035.

The name alludes to the Hawker Tempest of the 1940s, which was then the successor to the Hawker Typhoon .
