background
Bag, whose real name is Alex Chuaqui, has had experience as a musician since his youth. He was a founding member of the Canadian group Queen City Kids and had written songs for the group's sixth album, Loverboy , VI . In 2004 he worked as a songwriter on Simmons' second solo album, Asshole, which he released on his own label. Simmons became aware of the artist through a demo tape . In the press release for the album, he described the way it worked:
“BAG is a one man band, he writes his own songs. Sings them. Lead vocals and background vocals. Plays all the instruments. Produces, mixes and in almost all ways, seems to have avoided the pitfalls of being in a band. Chances are this 'band' won't break up because of internal conflict. This one may actually stay together. "

This could actually stay together. "
Chuaqui recorded his album in his own studio. Contrary to the version published in the press release, he did not play all the instruments himself, but was supported by Darren Paris, who played bass for six of the recorded songs . Chuaqui played guitars , keyboards , percussion and sang, and he also worked as a music producer .
The album was released on September 13, 2005, and a music video was produced for the single I Cant Stand Your Face .

reception
David Jeffries wrote for allmusic that if you mix “the obnoxiousness of Insane Clown Posse with the craziness of Beck and the shrewdness of the Eels ” and sprinkle a little of Todd Rundgren's “solitary magic”, the result is the sound of Bag. The album is “laden with quirks and dramatic twists” and “becomes cumbersome from time to time.” The songs on the album are “very ambitious, epic and theatrical in their arrangements, but not rock 'n' roll.” In the last quarter of the There are some “sweet ballads” on the album, the arrangements of which are “engaging” and the production of which makes Jeff Lynne “jealous”. Fortunately, this loner is "more hit than failed attempt", and there is evidence on this debut that it could stay that way. If you can ignore the “clumsiness of your empathetic versus filthy dichotomy ”, you should “dive in and enjoy this one-man Rocky horror picture show ”.
