The BBÖ 2020.01 was a diesel-electric powered locomotive of the BBÖ .
The BBÖ already had some gasoline-powered railcars in use. However, since the risk of fire when parking these vehicles with steam locomotives in the same locomotive shed was considerable, the BBÖ ordered two diesel-powered mainline locomotives in the summer of 1926, one for 760 mm narrow gauge ( BBÖ 2070 / s ) and one for standard gauge , the 2020.01.
The 2020.01 was delivered in 1927 by Grazer Waggon- und Maschinenfabriks AG , which also manufactured the diesel engine. The electrical power transmission came from AEG in Vienna . The locomotive was used on the Gailtalbahn Arnoldstein - Kötschach-Mauthen and on other branch lines. Because of the hard running of the diesel engine and because of the difficult maintenance, the vehicle was parked in 1935 and used as a spare part dispenser for the 2070 / s. The generator and electric motor were used as a transmission drive in the turning shop of the main workshop in St. Pölten in 1937 .
The Deutsche Reichsbahn designated the locomotive as V 20.001 in 1938, but decommissioned the motorless vehicle as early as 1939.
The ÖBB later used the designation again in 2020 - for the ÖBB 2020, which was completely redesigned in 1960 .
