The series EL 30 of the operation for mining equipment Aue (BBA) indicates an electric locomotive , which was built from 1962 to 1986. A total of around 173 EL 30s and 40 of the further development EL 30-1 were built for mining company 9 of SDAG Wismut .

development

EL 30 T

The origin of these locomotives is unknown. Its development probably goes back to a series of overhead wire locomotives used in Johanngeorgenstadt. The background for their development was the need for powerful locomotives with which large masses can be transported quickly in the area of the large mine field, but with narrow and curvy profiles. They also acted as donors for the later manufactured EL 30 T.

Constructive features

mechanics

The basic concept of the locomotive corresponds to the B 360. It had an outer frame closed at the bottom, which represented the load-bearing structure and an end driver's cab. It was carried out with a welded frame. In contrast to the B 360, the slightly higher frame carried the pantograph on a portal. As a parking brake, it had a hand lever brake.

Electrics

Each axle was driven by a drive motor in the cradle bearing . The parallel-connected DC series motors were controlled via resistors. The travel and braking levels can be selected with the cam switch. In addition to the mechanical parking brake, it also had an electrical resistance brake. The locomotive has a dead man's switch integrated into the drive switch, which is operated with the left foot. It is used for occupational safety by preventing the locomotive from being operated while the driver is outside the driver's cab. Due to the limited clear space underground, this way of working had repeatedly led to serious or fatal accidents at work.

EL 30 T

The EL 30 T (T = tandem) consisted of two EL 30 coupled to one another, which were combined with the driver's cab of a BBA B 660 . The driver's cabs of the EL 30 were removed and covered with metal sheets.

A modification of this tandem locomotive was the composite locomotive FA 860 , in which an EL 30 was combined with a BBA B 360 and which could be used in both battery and contact wire operation.
