The BDO AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft , shortly BDO is a German company based in Hamburg . It has the three business areas of auditing and audit-related services, tax and commercial law advice and advisory services.
BDO is the fifth largest auditing company in Germany after the Big Four audit firms. BDO is a founding member of the international BDO network , the only global network with European roots. It is represented in 162 countries with over 80,000 employees and generated sales of 7.6 billion euros in the 2018 financial year.

history
Deutsche Warentreuhand Aktiengesellschaft - today BDO AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft - was founded on the initiative of Max Warburg and Paul von Mendelssohn-Bartholdy by the Berlin bank Mendelssohn & Co. in 1920 to promote German foreign trade after the World War. The company, with headquarters in Hamburg and branches in Berlin and Frankfurt , was initially headed by August Lattmann from 1932 onwards by Johannes Semler . The company was already cooperating with foreign trust companies in the early 1930s. Since 1920 the seat of the BDO Wirtschaftsprüfergesellschaft has been Ferdinandstrasse in Hamburg's old town. Because these premises did not allow any further expansion, the headquarters moved to Fuhlentwiete in March 2013. 400 employees work there on 11,000 square meters.
In the 2017 financial year, BDO generated a total of almost 230 million euros in sales at 26 locations with over 1,900 employees.
Turnarounder of the year
Together with the business magazine Impulse, BDO has been awarding the “Turnarounder of the Year” award since 2006. The award, which is graded according to company size (three size classes: companies with up to 200, with up to 750 and with more than 750 employees) honors entrepreneurs who have mastered difficult economic situations in their company and brought about a sustainable trend reversal.
International Business Compass (IBC)
Since 2011, BDO has been issuing the International Business Compass (IBC) together with the Hamburg World Economic Institute (HWWI). In contrast to comparable studies, the international ranking assesses the attractiveness of business locations based on the political, legal and social framework.
BDO International
In 1973 the company Binder, Dijker, Otte & Co. was founded, whose initials were later used to name the group. According to the ranking of the International Accounting Bulletin for 2011, the international BDO network is the fifth largest auditing and consulting organization in the world with a turnover of 5.67 billion US dollars. In 2014 BDO International recorded an increase in fee sales of more than 6 percent to around 5.2 billion euros. The international growth is due in part to a number of strategic mergers.
The member firms include companies worldwide in most highly developed countries, e.g. the European Union , USA , many countries in Asia , South and Central America and Oceania.
