BMC Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. , BMC for short , is a Turkish truck and commercial vehicle manufacturer. The production facilities are located in Izmir on an area of 200,000 m². The number of employees is 3,500. BMC produces 21,500 vehicles and 22,000 engines annually.

history

In 1964, BMC (Great Britain) established its subsidiary in Turkey and began producing Austin and Morris vehicles. In 1966 the production of trucks began. From 1989 BMC was wholly owned by Turkey. Since 2014, the majority of BMC has been owned by Ethem Sancak ( Esmedya ), an entrepreneur who has previously been primarily active in the media industry . The Qatari armed forces acquired a 50 percent stake in BMC in 2014.

In 2017, BMC is planning a joint venture with Rheinmetall and the Etika Strategi holding company for the production of tanks in Turkey. The company was founded to take part, among other things, in the tender for the production of the Altay battle tank .

BMC is part of the TOGG (Türkiye'nin Otomobili Girişim Grubu) consortium , which, according to the Turkish President's announcement, will manufacture a “Turkish” automobile by 2021.

Business areas

In addition to trucks , large buses, midi and minibuses, and vans are also manufactured. Another branch of production is the armaments industry. Here BMC supplies the military (mainly NATO ) with transports, semi-trailers, tank trucks and other tactical logistics units of all kinds. What is striking about the variety of models from BMC is that the manufacturer produces all versions himself and does not commission them, as is the case with other large Europeans, for example Manufacturers is the case. So from the above. Models, for example, fire trucks for the fire brigade as well as military transporters with MG hatches in the driver's cab or school buses, tank trucks, concrete mixers, handicapped-friendly buses, garbage trucks, dump trucks, etc.
