The Bundes-Oberstufe Realgymnasium Lienz is an upper level secondary school in the city of Lienz in East Tyrol .

The building has the address Kärntner Straße 8 and is a former citizen's hospital under monument protection .

History of the building

The former citizen hospital was mentioned in a document in 1308. The hospital was expanded from 1475 to 1480 and was later structurally changed several times. The building was used as a hospital until 1931 when the Lienz District Hospital was rebuilt. In the course of the annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany, a high school for boys , today the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Lienz , was set up on the premises in October 1938 . Soon after the beginning of the war, the building served as a hospital. In the 1960s, after extensive renovations and extensions, the BORG Lienz was housed in the former citizens' hospital.

School history

In 1972, the music-pedagogical branch of the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Lienz, established in 1964/65, was declared an independent school and from 1984/85 was called the Bundes-Oberstufenrealgymnasium Lienz . It has three educational focuses: music, art and sport.
