BR5-49 is an American country band. Her music has strong influences from western swing , hillbilly and rockabilly . The band's name is based on a sketch from the American Hee Haw Show , in which comedian Junior Samples holds up a slip of paper with the phone number BR-549 several times.

BR5-49 was originally formed as a live band for Robert's Western Wear , a clothing store and bar in Nashville . Here the group played several times a week. In 1995 they got a record deal with Arista Records . 1999 followed a joint tour with Brian Setzer . After the country music division of Arista was dissolved, the group switched to Lucky Dog , a Sony label . After Bennett and McDowell left, a move to Dualtone Records took place .

In 2015, the German label Bear Family Records released a previously unreleased German concert by the band from 1996.

The band has been nominated for a Grammy three times .
