In the course of the formation of company sports associations (BSG) , with which sport in the Soviet occupation zone , later the GDR , was to be reorganized, several state- owned companies (VEB) founded the BSG VEB Großräschen-Süd. This took part in 1949/50 in the football championship of the third-class district class Brandenburg-Südost and was third in season A. In the course of the 1950/51 season, the GDR-wide sports association Aktivist was founded, under whose roof all company sports associations of the mining industry were united. The former BSG VEB was renamed BSG Aktivist Großräschen-Süd with the now sole sponsoring company VEB Braunkohlenwerk Großräschen. She finished at the end of the season in the district class, which is now only fourth class (introduction of the GDR league ), in 15th place. After a twelfth place in the 1951/52 season, the BSG activist switched to the Brandenburg-West district class for the 1952/53 season, in which it was constantly represented until 1956.

In 1954/55 activist Großräschen-Süd qualified for the GDR-wide soccer cup competition ( FDGB-Pokal ). In the first main round, the team met the fifth division club BSG Chemie Radebeul at home , but retired from the cup competition early after a 3-1 defeat. In 1956 GDR football was played every calendar year, and the new GDR League II was introduced. In the now fifth class district class, the BSG activist only reached 14th place, which was equivalent to relegation to the district league.

It took until the 1963/64 season, the GDR football had meanwhile returned to the summer-spring rhythm, until the BSG activist Großräschen-Süd returned to the Cottbus district class. This had become fourth class again after the second GDR league was discontinued, and newcomer activist Großräschen achieved relegation with fifth place. In 1964/65 a reduction in the number of teams in the district class of the BSG activist was fatal, because twelfth place was no longer enough to remain in the division. The BSG managed its longest phase in the district class between 1967 and 1975 with eight seasons, in which it achieved its best result in 1971/72 with third place. In 1978/79 and 1979/80 the team reappeared in the district class, and then remained in the district level until the end of the GDR soccer game.

In 1990 the sports field of the BSG activist was excavated in the course of the further development of the Großräschen open-cast lignite mine. Since the promotion of the previous sponsoring companies was also discontinued due to the changed economic conditions as a result of the political change in 1990 , the two Großräschen sports communities Aktivist and Aufbau merged on October 2, 1990 to form SV Großräschen .
