In the football season 1950/51 a football team grew up in the company sports community Aufbau Katzhütte, which was able to establish itself in the southern Thuringian region for several years. At the end of the season, BSG Motor rose to the fourth-class district class in South Thuringia, where it qualified for the newly created fourth-class district class in Suhl in 1951/52. At the same time, she qualified for the GDR-wide FDGB soccer cup competition, which was originally to be held in the 1952/53 season. In two elimination rounds with 84 teams, the Katzhütte defeated the fourth division Motor Saalfeld and Einheit Rudolstadt 2-0 each. In the first main round, Katzhütte was drawn to the first division team BSG Einheit Ost Leipzig , to which the BSG Aufbau lost 3-0 on June 7, 1953 on its own spot. With this, Katzhütte did not experience the continuation of the competition, which was not continued until April 1954 because of the popular uprising of June 17, 1953 .

In the 1952/53 district class season, Aufbau Katzhütte also demonstrated the increased quality and achieved promotion to the Suhl district league with second place . There it was not enough to stay in the league in 1953/54, with three teams tied on points, Katzhütte had the worst goal difference with 41:66. After four seasons, the BSG Aufbau 1959 (season same calendar year) also had to relegate from the district class, but immediately achieved promotion.

The BSG Motor Katzhütte was 1965-1966 relay winner in the district soccer class.

For the 1961/62 season there was a change in the league structure in the Suhl district; instead of the district class, eight district classes were introduced, which had the status of a 5th league in GDR football. After the 2nd GDR League was discontinued, the district classes moved up to the 4th League. Until the 1965/66 season, Katzhütte played in the Neuhaus am Rennweg district class and won the district championship in 1964 and 1966. In 1964 the team remained without a win in the promotion games and in 1966 the championship only led to qualification for the new fourth-class district class Suhl. There the BSG Aufbau Katzhütte failed as the bottom of the table of season 1 with only five points from 26 games (2-point rule) and a goal difference of 40: 104. With this, the BSG Aufbau finally said goodbye to the district level. In the 1980s, BSG Motor Katzhütte continued the Katzhütte football tradition at the level of the Suhl district. She played 1983/84 for one season in the district league, in the remaining years she moved to the district class level.
