history

After the end of the Second World War , the Grün-Gold Güstrow sports club was founded in Güstrow to maintain sports operations , after all sports clubs had previously been banned by the Soviet occupying forces. Only after the introduction of the system of company sports associations in the GDR around 1950 was the BSG unit founded, which replaced the previous sports association John Brinkmann , which emerged from the sports circle in 1948. Both SG and BSG mainly played football. Until the abolition of the East German states in 1952 , Güstrow football played a good role in Mecklenburg and was always represented in the state's top football league. In 1952, however, only 10th place in the state league could be achieved, and so unit Güstrow was included in the Schwerin district league after the introduction of the GDR districts in the 1952/53 season , which was the 3rd league in GDR football at that time.

For two decades, Einheit Güstrow was a permanent member of the Schwerin District League and mostly occupied places in the top third of the table. In the 1972/73 season, the team won the district championship and qualified for the second-rate GDR league . Although the league at that time with 60 teams in five seasons did not have a special level, Güstrow could not achieve relegation in the northern season A. Six wins were achieved in the 22 league games, but the defense proved to be an Achilles heel, with 47 goals conceding the second-worst record of the season. It was also the poor goal difference against TSG Bau Rostock that condemned Güstrow to relegation in 1974 as the third from bottom.

In the 1974/75 cup season , however, they were able to prove that the team was still good at flying high . One after the other, they eliminated the GDR league team Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock and TSG Wismar 3-1 each. In the 3rd round, the lot won the Güstrowern top division club BFC Dynamo , which they then lost 4-0.

The team showed so much quality in the district league that they were immediately promoted again. In the 1975/76 and 1976/77 seasons, the Mecklenburgers were able to assert themselves in the GDR league. In the 1975/76 season, the neighboring FC Hansa Rostock was also one of the opponents in the league table . On November 5, 1975 the Mecklenburg Derby took place in Güstrow, which attracted 5,000 spectators to the Borwinseck sports park. The home side achieved a remarkable 1: 1. 1977/78 sealed the below-average defense performance, the renewed relegation. Three wins and a goal difference of 21:64 were only enough for the penultimate place.

From 1978 the Güstrower footballers played again in the third-class district league Schwerin, initially between ranks 2 to 8. In 1984 the team started as BSG Lokomotive Güstrow , but the placement with a decreasing tendency. Twelfth place in the 1989/90 season represented the lowest point of development. It was not until the last season of the Schwerin district league in the structure of GDR football that Güstrow, now VfL Grün-Gold , came up with a remarkable result after the poor record of recent years third place.

The VfL had to be founded in 1990 because after the political change in 1989 the economic basis for the company sports associations sponsored by regional companies and institutions no longer existed. Due to the final placement in 1991, VfL was incorporated into the newly created state league Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . At the end of the 1991/92 season, however, Green-Gold had to relegate, and in the following years the club sank into the lowlands of regional football. It was not until 1997 that he was promoted to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league, then the 6th division. In November 2001 the football department of VfL Grün-Gold was enlarged when the team from ETSV Güstrow joined it.

In order to do justice to current and future demographic and social development, the officials of VfL Grün-Gold and PSV 90 Güstrow , which emerged from SG Dynamo Güstrow in 1990 , decided to merge. This resulted in the Güstrower SC 09 on July 1, 2010.
