Baby (battery)
Baby , baby cell and C are common names for a standardized, widespread size of batteries and accumulators . These are cylindrical round cells with a diameter of 24.9 to 26.2 mm and a height of 48.6 to 50.0 mm. The first value in each case is the minimum from the IEC 60086-2 standard , the second value is the maximum permitted according to the IEC 60086-1 standard. This results in a volume of about 25 cm³.
Some battery compartments (e.g. from the manufacturer eitech GmbH) only have space for R14 cells up to max. 25.7 mm diameter.
Baby cells are manufactured with different electrochemical systems, which can differ significantly in nominal voltage , capacity and load capacity. Depending on the system, other, often manufacturer-specific, designations for non-rechargeable and rechargeable baby cells are used.
Baby cells are primarily used in larger, portable electrical devices. Examples are toys , flashlights , cassette recorders , transistor radios and combinations of devices (especially radio recorders ). Due to the increased performance of the alkali-manganese cells , the Mignon size is often used in newly developed devices with lower energy requirements . The even larger mono cells are rarely used for new portable devices because of their size and weight.
