Badnagar , also Badhnagar , is a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . The city is 45 km west of the Ujjain district headquarters and is 244 km east of the state capital Bhopal and 72 km from Indore .

The city is part of the Ujjain District . Badnagar has municipal council status . The city is divided into 20 wards . It had 36,438 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 18,733 were men and 17,705 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 66%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 83.89%, well above the national average.

The city is connected to the rest of the country by a train station. Badnagar station is part of the Indian Railways Western Railway zone .
