Badminton is a village in the county of Gloucestershire in southwest England . It is not far from the Cotswolds, 7 km northeast of Chipping Sodbury . In 2011 the village had 271 inhabitants.

Badminton is about 31 km northeast of Bristol and 180 km northwest of London .

history

Badminton House, the seat of the Dukes of Beaufort since the late 17th century , was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The parts of the building in the Palladian style were designed by William Kent . In World War II lived Mary of Teck , the widow of King George V , in the castle.

After the village or the Badminton House, the early 19th century is probably in. British India created game Badminton named since 1860; however, it is unclear why.

Events

The Badminton Horse Trials take place on the grounds of Badminton House each April or May .
