Badrul Amin Bhuiya

Badrul Amin Bhuiya (born 1949 in Dhaka ) is a Bangladeshi entomologist , parasitologist and university professor who is particularly concerned with the research of the hymenoptera (Hymenoptera).

Career

Badrul Amin Bhuiya studied zoology at the University of Dhaka and graduated with a Master of Science degree in 1972 ; the title was only awarded to him in 1974. After a short period of occupation with two-winged birds , especially mosquitoes , he turned to the parasitic hymenoptera . In 1996 he received a postgraduate diploma from Imperial College London for his revision of the brackish wasp genus Iphiaulax . In 2010 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Chittagong. in zoology.

From 1975 to 2014 Bhuiya was a professor at the Zoological Faculty of the University of Chittagong , until 1981 as a lecturer, until 1987 as an assistant professor , until 1997 as an associate professor and finally as a full professor. In addition to his main focus on applied entomology , he held courses on general zoology, environmental sciences , biodiversity , veterinary tomology, parasitology , taxonomy and fisheries. In 1983 he was head of the zoological faculty for three months and again from 1989 to 1992.

From 1993 to 1996 Bhuiya headed a joint research project on the systematics of hymenoptera at the University of Chittagong, Imperial College London and the Natural History Museum in London. He set up the Insect Museum at his faculty as a zoological research and reference collection. As part of his work on biodiversity research, he founded a laboratory for DNA barcoding and molecular genetics at the zoological faculty .
