Badugi

The best possible Badugi hand.

Badugi is a variant of the card game Draw Poker . Each player is dealt four cards from a 52-card deck . Badugi is usually played in the Triple Draw format , but can also be played with just one round of trading.

regulate

As with Triple Draw , Badugi has a round of betting followed by three alternating rounds of exchange and rounds of betting. As with Texas Hold'em , the game is played with blinds. One player ( dealer ) receives the dealer button , the player to the left of the dealer posts the small blind , and the next player posts the big blind , which is usually double the small blind . The player to the left of the big blind begins the first round of betting. Badugi can be played with all common types of limits . In the Limit variant , double the stake is usually played from the second trading round. If there are still several players in the hand after the last betting round, a showdown takes place and the hands involved are scored . The player with the best hand wins the pot .

Rating

The hands are valued according to the lowball valuation variant , with the following differences:

  • The hand consists of four cards instead of five.
  • Only cards of different suits and different values count for scoring.

If you have paired cards or several cards of the same color in hand, one of the cards is struck out until you only have different cards with different colors in hand. If there are multiple ways to cross cards, the best possible hand will count. A Badugi hand can consist of four, three, two or even just one card. The hand that holds more cards always wins, and the better low hand with the same number of cards . Therefore 4-3-2-A in four different suits is the best possible Badugi hand.

Examples

  • 9 7 4 3 against J 3 2 A : The first hand wins because it is the better low hand , because a 9-low beats the J-low of the second hand.
  • 8 3 A A against K J 9 4 : The second hand wins because it consists of four cards and one of the aces is struck out of the first hand so that it only consists of three cards.
  • K K 7 5 versus K K 3 2 : The first hand wins as the K is crossed out to form the three-card hand K 7 5 on the second hand Both kings must be struck out, and you get the two-card hand 3 2 .
