The World Championship of Online Poker , WCOOP for short , is an online poker tournament series . It has been held once a year on the PokerStars platform since 2002 .

history

In 2002, based on the World Series of Poker, the first WCOOP took place on PokerStars . In the meantime, the WCOOP has developed into the largest online poker tournament series. As with the WSOP in Las Vegas , the WCOOP has at least one tournament in every poker variant . In addition to the prize money, the winner of a WCOOP tournament will receive a 14-carat gold bracelet .

The 15 tournaments in 2005 had a total prize pool of $ 12,783,900 . It was the largest online event to date and, in 2005, the third largest tournament series in the world. In 2006 a German player with the nickname F.Briatore won the first bracelet for Germany. In 2007, the variants Texas Hold'em , Omaha Hold'em , Seven Card Stud , Razz and HORSE were played in the various limits and valuation variants (high / low). As with the WSOP, the most expensive tournament was a HORSE tournament with a buy-in of $ 5200. In that year pes4fans won the second tournament for Germany in a $ 320 NLHE shorthanded tournament. At the main event , which had a buy-in of $ 2600, there was a scandal because the actual winner TheV0id ( Mark Teltscher ) had played the tournament with multiple accounts and thus gained a criminal advantage. Two weeks after the main event, he was disqualified by PokerStars and the American ka $ ino was declared the winner.

In 2018, the Dutchman wann2play won the main event, but his account was frozen shortly after his win because his account was being used by another player. In February 2020 the Argentinian Ezequiel "eze88888" Waigel, who actually came second, was named the winner.
