Bae Gi-tae (also Bae Ki-tae; kor. 배 기태 ; born May 3, 1965 in Daegu ) is a former South Korean speed skater .

Bae started his speed skating career as an all-rounder, but later specialized in the sprint. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , he competed over 1500 and 5000 meters. He finished 32nd and 39th. In the following years he competed in both all- around and sprint world championships . In the Great Four Fighting , he finished 26th ( 1985 ), 22nd ( 1986 ) and 20 ( 1987 ); In 1988 he only competed over 500 meters. In the sprint all-around he was 23rd ( 1985 ) and 16th ( 1987 ). With his achievements Bae qualified for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . There he reached positions 5 and 9 over 500 and 1000 meters. The following year he was sixth at the Sprint World Championships . In his last active season Bae appeared again at the all- around world championship . For the third time he was able to win the 500 meter race (1987, 1988, 1990). Overall, he finished 17th. Its only international title he earned in 1990 in Tromso by winning the Sprint-around competition at the World Sprint Championships . With this victory, Bae became the first Korean speed skater to win a title in an international professional competition.
