Bagatello was a comedy and a cappella formation from Bern .

Band history

The formation was founded in June 1993 after the group had found each other on the occasion of a play at the Hofwil teachers' seminar . Founding members were Martin Witschi, Patrick Moser, Michael Grossenbacher , Christian Feuz and Simon Joss. Charly Tschannen acted as the first consultant and manager.

The first trout program (1995–1996) was based on the Schubert trout and included Gregorian pieces and Elvis classics. Even then, pieces were written that remained popular in later band history and were often sung as encores, such as Le lion est mort ce soir and Wild Thing .

In October 1996 the new program Warp 8.6 was premiered in the Dampfzentrale Bern . For the first time, comedy and drama interludes were also incorporated into the program. The idea of not just singing songs, but experiencing them, was retained and contributed considerably to the success of Bagatello. The group concluded the program in 1998 with a final concert in the gas boiler in Bern and performed in this formation for the last time.

At the end of 1999 Bagatello presented the premiere of the MIXtour to the fans in the Kunsthalle Bern . Simon Fankhauser and Adrian Küpfer joined Bagatello as replacements for Simon Joss and Christian Feuz. During the MIXtour , Bagatello made a name for himself more and more in the Bernese music scene and developed into an insider tip for comedy and a cappella singing. First appearances on regional TV stations and on SF DRS made Bagatello more popular.

In June 2002, Bagatello started their fourth program MRB - Men's Bagatello. This program was created for the first time with professional help in terms of direction, singing and arrangements. MRB can be seen as the beginning of the band's success, with audience records at two appearances at expo.02 , three outdoor appearances and winning the small Prix Walo 2002. In 20 months, Bagatello sang about 100,000 people at their live concerts in Switzerland. Together with the TV appearances on SF DRS and almost all regional TV channels, Bagatello reached around one million people in Switzerland. At the beginning of 2004 the big Swiss tour in Das Zelt followed, starting in Basel , which at the same time formed the Dernière of MRB . MRB was Bagatello's first program to be recorded and then released on DVD. Bagatello then made various appearances throughout Switzerland with the advanced MRB program .

From August 2005 Bagatello were ABSOLUTELY on the road with their new program . At around 80 appearances on this tour, Bagatello could count almost 60,000 visitors by 2007.

In June 2007 the new program Jukebox (You say what we play) started , with which Bagatello played concerts all over Switzerland until 2009. The jukebox was unique in that the audience could always determine the course of the evening themselves. At the same time, the jukebox is not an improvisational theater, but a strictly rehearsed show. In this program too, Bagatello described the constant interaction between the audience and the artists as the band's trademark. With the jukebox, Bagatello was able to break the record after which no band or formation was able to celebrate more sold-out shows in the most traditional cultural venue in Bern, the Bierhübeli , which Bagatello and international top acts such as Söhne Mannheims , Maceo Parker , Bad Religion or Gary Moore have their permanent place in the history of the Bierhübeli in Bern.

On December 6, 2007, Bagatello's third DVD was released, Black Album . It offers a look behind the scenes of the a cappella show group and is at the same time a look back at 14 years of band history. The footage comes from the entire UNBEDINGT tour (2005 to 2007), during which the five singers filmed themselves in the cloakrooms, at rehearsals or on the tour bus.

After the small Prix Walo in 2002, Bagatello received the Prix Walo in the cabaret / comedy category on April 20, 2008 after 15 years of stage work. Bagatello then released the song zeme for the European football championship that year in Austria and Switzerland . Shortly thereafter, the DVD for the Jukebox program (You say what we play) was released , and the entire program was also released on CD.

After completing the jukebox tour in spring 2009, during which the band played their thousandth concert, and a closing gala in Das Zelt on December 27th, Bagatello separated on the grounds that they were burned out, wanted to take a break and then another Going out in show business (Grosi: "We simply ran out of ideas. [...] We are simply tired of Bagatello. Each of us doesn't want to do anything or think anything again." ).

Trivia

Bagatello called their style a storycal . This term is derived from the musical. While the musical tells a story with the help of music, the storycal presents a song with its own story.
