Listed building since 1968.

Baggböle herrgård is a mansion that was part of Baggböle sågverk (Baggböle Sawmill) in Baggböle . The house was near the rapids in the river Ume km about 10 upwards from the center of Umea in the province of Västerbottens län in Sweden built.

history

Baggböle sawmill around 1880, with the manor house in the background.

The house was designed by the preacher Johan Anders Linder, who in addition to sacred buildings often worked as an architect and builder of stately buildings and was apparently valued for his wooden houses in the Empire style . Thanks to a donation from Umeå Missionsförsamling , the house was taken over in 1968, renovated and re-inaugurated in 1971. In 1968 the villa ( Byggnadsminne ) was listed . For the next 35 years the house was opened as a summer café , mainly through volunteer work, and it was a popular excursion destination in the region, also for the annual celebration of Walpurgis Night . In 2006 a businessman bought the farm and land of around 340 hectares; further renovations are being carried out.

architecture

The mansion was built with smooth wooden panels and painted white with linseed oil paint so that it looks like a modern stone house. With an area of 500 square meters on two floors, it was one of the largest houses in the region. The walls on the long sides are symmetrical with a temple shape in the middle, supported by Doric pilasters . The house is well preserved, in contrast to the two wings, buildings, schools, gardens and stables, two pavilions and a bowling alley that originally belonged to the building.

Surroundings

From the manor house at the top of the hill one had a view of the work barracks, offices, tool sheds, blacksmiths and a boathouse on the bank, where the Arboretum Norr is today. None of these buildings erected between 1842 and 1850 including the water mill have been preserved. One of the gang saws has been restored and is in the Umeå Energicentrum Museum in Klabböle on the opposite bank of the river. After the heyday of the sawmills from 1850 to 1880, the sawmill (and some workshops) was relocated to the new steam sawmill in Holmsund in 1855 , which brought the craft in Baggböle to a standstill.
