Model construction of the Tüddern train station

This article deals with the train stations in the municipality of Selfkant in the district of Heinsberg . These include the former stations on the Geilenkirchener Kreisbahn : the station in Tüddern , the station in Wehr and the station in Süsterseel .

history

All stations belonged to the Geilenkirchener Kreisbahn and have not been in operation since 1949. The tracks were dismantled in the 1950s.

Tüddern station

The Tüddern station, like the Wehr and Süsterseel stations, went into operation on April 7, 1900. The station was away from Tüddern on the Dutch border. The place Tüddern was a few hundred meters away, a district of Sittard was much closer . The station building was demolished after the closure. Nothing is left of the station area today, it used to consist of three tracks and a stump track.

Former plans

The Geilenkirchener Kreisbahn was originally intended to be extended to Sittard , to the local train station, the Sittard Station. That is why the Tüddern station was very close to the Dutch border , as it was hoped that it would be continued. The approval for this extension was never given because of the international operations. The stump track in Tüddern station was originally supposed to be extended in order to continue building the railway. All three tracks led into this stump track. Tüddern station was never a through station, but it was built that way.

Before the construction of the Geilenkirchener Kreisbahn, a route to Sittard was planned, which should lead from Lindern via Heinsberg to Haaren , Waldfeucht to Tüddern and Sittard. It was never built as a small train. It was decided to build the Wurmtalbahn , which only runs as far as the Heinsberg train station .

Wehr station (Kr.Geilenkirchen)

Wehr was not originally supposed to have its own train station, but rather to be connected to the railway network via the station in Tüddern. However, the station was built anyway, it included a loading track, the main track and a side platform. The reception building is still preserved today and serves as a restaurant. The station area has been completely dismantled and partially built over.

Süsterseel station

The station building now serves as a residential building. The equipment of the station is similar to that of Wehr.
