The Blumenthal (Mark) train station (until October 1, 1913 Blumenthal (Prign.)) Is the train station in the Blumenthal district of the Heiligengrabe community .

The entire station with its buildings is a listed building . The reception building , the signal box , a goods shed and the toilet block have been preserved. In addition, the water tower , a pump house, the railway master's house and the wash house belong to the ensemble.

Location and facilities

The station is on the Neustadt – Meyenburg railway line west of the center of the Blumenthal district. In the municipality of Heiligengrabe, to which Blumenthal has belonged since 2003, there are three further stations with Rosenwinkel (also on the Meyenburg – Neustadt railway line) and Heiligengrabe and Liebenthal on the Wittenberge – Strasburg railway line . Blumenthal train station has two continuous tracks and a loading lane on the house platform.

The entire ensemble of buildings at the station is a listed building. The octagonal water tower, which was probably built at the same time as the train station in 1887, is one of the town's landmarks.

Platforms (2019)

With the opening of the railway line from Neustadt (Dosse) via Pritzwalk to Meyenburg by the Prussian State Railways in 1887, Blumenthal received its station. At the same time, the Mecklenburg Friedrich-Franz Railway to Plau am See opened , which had a connection to an existing line to Güstrow . This created a continuous north-south connection. Nevertheless, the route served almost exclusively local traffic.

After 1945 the importance of the line and with it Blumenthal station increased temporarily, as it had to cope with part of the freight and passenger traffic to the Baltic Sea coast as a replacement for the Neustrelitz – Warnemünde railway line, which was partially dismantled after the Second World War . After it was rebuilt, the line remained important primarily for freight traffic and for military reasons. The Blumenthal train station was expanded, the crossing tracks were extended and new signaling technology was installed. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, freight traffic was again significantly reduced.

Water tower (2019)

Passenger traffic on the route was taken over in 1996 by the Prignitzer Eisenbahn (PEG). In 2008, the Prignitzer Eisenbahn also leased the infrastructure of the line and thus also the track and signal systems of the Blumenthal station from the DB AG. Since July 2012, the corresponding systems in the train station have belonged to the RegioInfra company as a lease, together with the other lines and systems previously operated by the PEG's infrastructure subsidiary .

The station building was bought in November 2011 by private individuals who have established their residence there.

passenger traffic

The station served almost exclusively the regional traffic for trains between Pritzwalk and Neustadt. In 1939, six to seven trains ran in both directions, depending on the day of the week; in the 1980s there were seven to eight trains. At times, some of the trains to Güstrow were tied through. In the early 1990s, a continuous train ran from Wittstock via Blumenthal to Potsdam . In the mid-1990s, a cycle timetable was introduced. Until the end of 2006, the PE 73 line of the PEG operated every hour before it switched to a two-hour service.

In December 2012, the train service was significantly reduced after the state of Brandenburg ordered less traffic on the route. Since then, only two pairs of trains have served the station Monday to Friday, and three at weekends. The trains are operated by the Hanseatic Railway (HANS). The line designation was unified to RB 73.
