The Hanseatische Eisenbahn GmbH ( HANS , own spelling: HANSeatische Eisenbahn GmbH ) is a railway company that emerged in 2014 from the passenger transport division of the Potsdam Railway Company (EGP). Both companies belong to ENON GmbH, which is based in Putlitz in the north-west of Brandenburg.

history

In Brandenburg, HANS operates local rail passenger transport on the branch lines in Prignitz. On November 2, 2012, the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association announced that EGP (from which HANS emerged in 2014) will take over these rail connections for (initially) two years from December 2012. The Meyenburg – Pritzwalk and Pritzwalk – Neustadt (Dosse) routes are operated with light internal combustion engines . However, the scope of operations is significantly lower than that of Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH, which previously operated the lines. According to the tender, the EGP was also responsible for developing a concept for the future operation of the routes. After developing such a concept, the transport contract could be extended for a further two years in December 2014. Another two-year contract was concluded for the following period from December 2016 to December 2018. If the neighboring communities agree, a long-term ten-year contract is planned from December 2018.

For the Neustrelitz - Mirow route, which was canceled when the timetable changed in December 2012, a new operating concept was drawn up before the end of the last timetable year, so that the transition from the previous operator of the Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn (ODEG) to the Hanseatic Railway could take place seamlessly. With a reduced offer, the continued operation of the route has been secured since December 2012, the responsible authority is now the Mecklenburg Lake District .

Weekend traffic between Meyenburg and Pritzwalk has been offered again since July 6, 2013 after the cities of Pritzwalk and Meyenburg, together with the Prignitz district, agreed on a financial contribution. From July 6 to September 30, 2013 and May to September 2014, single trips were also offered on Saturdays via Plau am See to Krakow am See in Mecklenburg. Since the weekend traffic is not ordered at the state level, the weekend's own “EGP house tariff”, which corresponds to the VBB tariff between Pritzwalk and Meyenburg, applied. Since the timetable change in December 2014, weekend trips to and from Meyenburg have been ordered again and VBB tickets are valid without restriction.

In December 2017, the Hanseatic Railway took over the traffic between Waren (Müritz) and the island town of Malchow from Deutsche Bahn. The district Mecklenburg Lake District was awarded the contract after negotiations of the HANS.

One year later, in December 2018, the Hanseatic Railway took over operations in the "Elbe-Altmark" network and operates the lines RB 33 Stendal - Tangermünde and RB 34 Stendal - Rathenow. VBB and NASA awarded the contract on February 14, 2017. The new contract runs for four years. LINT 27 railcars are used .

Formerly operated lines

On behalf of the Putlitz-Pritzwalker-Eisenbahnförderverein, school traffic in particular was provided on the "RB 70" line from Pritzwalk to Putlitz. Actually only planned until December 2012, the line ran until summer 2016. Following a Europe-wide tender, the Prignitz transport company lost its responsibility for bus transport in the Prignitz district on August 1, 2016 . The new bus operator no longer has the transport services handled by the RB 70.

The "middle" section of the Mecklenburg Southern Railway (formerly ODEG), which was canceled in December 2014, was operated independently.

In 2014, in cooperation with the Neustrelitz port railway, a direct connection between Neustrelitz and Plau am See called seen.land.bahn was offered . The trips were only offered on Thursdays during the season.

vehicles

The Hanseatic Railway uses two NE 81 (series 626) and three pre-series LVT / S (series 504). Two vehicles of the 670 series have been parked because of the deadline and a lack of spare parts.

In December 2014, HANS received a RegioShuttle RS1 vehicle from Stadler Pankow GmbH. The railcar was previously in use at the Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH and was rebuilt after a fire damage.

In 2018, the Hanseatic Railway acquired three additional DWA LVT / S railcars (672 907, 919, 920) that were previously in service with the Burgenland Railway . For the new traffic in Saxony-Anhalt, three Alstom Coradia Lint 27s were taken over by Transdev Saxony-Anhalt at the end of 2018 . The only vehicles that Hans decommissioned are the two VT 670.
